One two-month journey around the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an older woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The ship left without her and came back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive hunt discovered her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the shipping company stated that travelers and crew on the ship were told that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and earlier mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also issued an revised statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" banning any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would attend the liner in the port city upon its return.

Sequence of Occurrences

The liner first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the time of the senior passenger's death. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Travelers on the vessel - who usually pay substantial amounts of currency to take part in the voyage - were taken there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or snorkeling.

Family Statement

The child of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the ship left the location after an scheduled tour without my mother".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking organization.

"From the little details we have been provided, it seems that there was a breakdown of attention and common sense," she said.

She continued that she wished the examination would be able to identify what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Mum's existence".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a very hot period, and mum took sick on the uphill trek," she stated.

"Officials suggested her to go back, alone. Then the ship left, reportedly without doing a roll call.

"At some stage in that sequence, or soon after, mother passed away, without company."

Organization Reaction

In a statement, the Chief Executive verified that the operator was "working closely with officials to support their examination".

He mentioned that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had provided its total backing to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Practices

The liner caters for up to one hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty crew, according to corporate data. It was specially constructed to access isolated areas of Australia's shoreline and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to ferry individuals on day excursions.

Occurrences of this nature are infrequent, and passenger vessels have systems to document which passengers are embarking or getting off, according to maritime specialists.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard simply isn't an possibility," one expert commented.

Cruise lines take these procedures with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such occurrences from occurring," the authority added.

"This seems to be most likely a shocking - and unfortunate - one-off."
