Around 25,000 households in Queensland's southeast found themselves without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events passed over the region, producing strong winds reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Ice Stones and Broad Impact

Homeowners reported large ice chunks measuring up to 7cm in particular locations. Meteorological experts confirmed that different parts across the state had been hit with large hailstones.

Response teams were working to restore electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Storm Challenges

At the same time, around one thousand residents in Victoria also faced energy failures after Melbourne experienced its most precipitation in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• The Werribee area - experienced significant storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing suburb - multiple rescue reports
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 emergency requests

At one point on Sunday, over 28k electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were predicted to continue along large portions of eastern Queensland this next several days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was expected to become the wettest day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential predicted across multiple regions of both states.

Health Warning

Health officials alerted that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.

This alert comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to significant health impacts in the state.
